ElmalHeroquest1

Elmal Guards the Stead is a heroquest, where the quester enters the godplane to assume the role of Elmal to reinact the defending of the Storm Tribe.

Myth[]

  • If you chose Elmal as your main deity during clan creation, you will already know the specifics of this myth, and can attempt the heroquest at any time.

You can read the full myth from your lore screen, or in the book Storm Tribe.

Benefits[]

If you successfully complete this heroquest, you can ask one of the following:

  • Strengthen the quester or the clan leaders, (increases Animal, Combat, Magic)
  • Magically strengthen the fortifications,
  • Gain horses, or the aid of the god when attacked,
  • Ward off Chaos,
  • Discourage intruders from entering your tula,
  • Reconcile the weaponthanes to the clan.

Additionally, the successful completion of this heroquest will lessen the threat of Chaos and provide horses if the clan's horse herd gets too small for about 3 years.

The Quester[]

There are no restrictions to your choice of quester for this quest.

Nevertheless, keep in mind that Elmal worshippers will have a better chance at succeeding.

Walkthrough[]

-When fighting the three chaos monsters, options seems to be random, even learning all the secrets of the myth doesn't tell you much.

After some trials, the best options for the first three battles seem to be these:

1.Thrust your spear and let it stand on your in order to get a leverage.

2.Chop her legs and club her head.

3.Run around him and burn him with your brightness.

-Give of your tears after every battle

-Orlanth did not steal my pride, he awakened it

-This oracle is false ("I would not be loyal to Orlanth..." also works)

-Give your soul, then promise to serve chaos.

Protecting against Chaos:

ElmalHeroquest2

Orlanth leaves on his great quest, and Elmal remains to protect the stead against the forces of Chaos. The Eater of Skin, a chaos monstrosity, comes singing the Rending Song, which makes the people bleed.

  1. Blind it with your brightness.
  2. Leave the realm of the gods.
  3. Let it step on you, in order to gain leverage to throw it far away.
  4. Let it tear you apart.
  5. Protect yourself with Orlanth's shield.
  6. Sing a song of comforting valor.
  7. Thrust your spear into its eye.

After defeating the creatures:

ElmalHeroquest3

Only after he has defeated the creatures do the people of the Storm Tribe see that the fight has broken <Quester> into pieces. They wail in despair: "Our defender is gone!" What do the worshippers back in the ritual ground do to help <Quester> knit himself back together?

  1. Do nothing.
  2. Give of your clan magic.
  3. Give of your tears.
  4. Sacrifice a treasure.
  5. Sacrifice horses.

Note: If your quester fails to knit himself back together, the consequences will be dire. In addition to the death of your quester, clan morale will suffer, and you will soon suffer an eruption of Chaos.

Once knitted back together:

ElmalHeroquest4

Then more Chaos enemies come. The next is the Author of Sores, who causes old wounds to fester.

  1. Buffet her with the wind of Orlanth's sword.
  2. Chop at her legs.
  3. Club her about the head.
  4. Lance her with your spear.
  5. Leave the realm of the gods.
  6. Let her tear you apart.

After the fight:

ElmalHeroquest3

Again, after he has defeated the Chaos invader, the people of the Storm Tribe see that the fight has broken <Quester> into pieces. They are uneasy. "He knitted himself back together last time, but how do we know that he will do it again?" What do the worshippers back in the ritual ground do?

  1. Do nothing.
  2. Give of your clan magic.
  3. Give of your tears.
  4. Sacrifice a treasure.
  5. Sacrifice horses.

After getting stitched together again:

ElmalHeroquest4

Then comes the Maker of Bad Growth, who says, "I will slay you by causing the soft parts inside you to multiply like maggots, so that they will burst you open like a too-full sausage."

  1. Burn him with your brightness.
  2. Leave the realm of the gods.
  3. Let him tear you apart.
  4. Let the wind of Orlanth's sword make him small.
  5. Run around him on a hallowed horse, until he becomes dizzy.
  6. Throw your spear into his ghastly mouth.

Note: Losing at this point (or directly choosing option 3) will cause clan morale to suffer and result in the death of the quester. In addition, you will lose some horses.

Once stitched back together a third time:

ElmalHeroquest5

While guarding the stead the next day, <Quester> is approached by a lost love. "<Quester>, <Quester>," the lover says, "You once loved me, but I was unfaithful to you. You were wracked with sorrow, and that made you weak. Because of me, the upstart god, Orlanth, was able to beat you and steal your pride. Now that the world is dark and you are the only remaining light, I see the error of my ways. I have come to restore my love to you, and restore your pride. Come with me, for I have made a safe place for the two of us. Leave these barbarians, and we will hide away until the darkness ends."

  1. "I cannot abandon these people."
  2. "I loved you once, but I love you no longer."
  3. Leave the realm of the gods.
  4. "Orlanth did not steal my pride. He awakened it."
  5. "You're just a chaos creature in disguise."

Note: Failure at this point leads to the loss of your quester and of clan morale.

The Oracle:

ElmalHeroquest6

The next day, Elmal is approached by a blind oracle known to the Storm Tribe. "<Quester>, <Quester>," he wails, "your master, Orlanth, is as good as slain, defeated in the land of the dead." He shows <Quester> an image of his king, trapped in a pit and unable to escape. "You must take Orlanth's place as King of the Storm Tribe, for Orlanth's day is done. Without a king, your beloved tribe will wither and die." Some members of the Storm Tribe flock to <Quester>'s side, offering him a crown.

  1. Leave the realm of the gods.
  2. "I can be a king, but that does not mean Orlanth is dead."
  3. "I would not be loyal to Orlanth if I believed him so easily defeated."
  4. "If some of you wish to call me a king, I will lead you."
  5. "This oracle is false."

King of Dragon Pass

Note: Failure at this point forces you to choose between options 1 and 4. Both will result in the loss of clan morale. Option 1 will allow the quester to survive, but will also lead to a large loss of your clan magic as well as an eruption of Chaos in the near future. Option 4 results in the loss of the quester and possible loss of some of your fortifications.

When the Teller of Lies returns:

ElmalHeroquest7

<Quester> knows that the Teller of Lies will return again, and so makes preparations. Indeed, someone does come the next day, in the form of the Emperor. What does <Quester> do?

  1. Give it a treasure.
  2. Leave the realm of the gods.
  3. Offer it your soul in the form of a fine stallion.
  4. Promise to serve Chaos.
  5. Promise to serve the Emperor.
