Happens when Your reputation with another clan is too low

The Orlanthi are a strange dichotomy of peace and war, and rarely a year goes by when they live in harmony.  However, tensions can either rise like a pile of sand, or explode in one outrageous act of violence...

Events[]

Dialogue: Slow Build-Up[]

Nobles from the <X> clan come in their formal finery to tell you that they intend to kill as many of you as they can.  "Because we have told you this, it won't be a secret murder, which is a crime.  We will kill you legally, which you deserve because offended us in countless ways.  No longer can we allow your insults and transgressions against us to go unanswered.  We will answer them in blood."
  1. Apologize for past wrongs.
  2. Compose a poem portraying them as cruel villains.
  3. Compose a poem portraying them as fools.
  4. Compose a poem praising their honor.
  5. Do nothing, for now.
  6. Offer them gifts.

King of Dragon Pass

Consequences[]

  • It is possible for an apology for past wrongs to be accepted, but only if you have a very persuasive speaker. More than likely, failure will result, and you will be in a feud.
  • If you decide to compose a poem, make sure your bardic skills are up to the task.  Successfully casting the <X> as either cruel villains or fools, will raise your people's morale, and other clans will approve your actions.  Bad writing just makes you look bad.
  • Praising their honor by poem can stop the feud if you are successful, but failure will be just another thing the <X> blame on to you.
  • Doing nothing doesn't change anything; you're still in a feud.
  • Offering gifts can work well, but sometimes it costs a lot of goods/cattle, and you may not have enough to satisfy <X>'s honor.

Dialogue: Lost Sons[]

Nobles from the <X> clan come in their formal finery to tell you that they intend to kill as many of you as they can.  "Because we have told you this, it is not a secret murder, which is a crime.  We will kill you legally, which you deserve because <Ring member> killed all four sons of our chief for no reason.  We have thought well you in the past, but this transgression is too terrible to go unanswered."
  1. Apologize for <Ring member>'s actions.
  2. Compose a poem praising the memory of the slain.
  3. Do nothing, for now.
  4. Offer them wergild.
  5. Outlaw <Ring member>.
  6. Tell them you are ready to fight.

King of Dragon Pass

Consequences[]

Unless something is done, you will be in a feud with the <X> clan.

  • It is possible for an apology for <ring member>'s actions to be accepted, but only if you have a very persuasive speaker.  More than likely, failure will result, and you will be in a feud.
  • Composing a poem can also forestall the feud, but your bardic skills better be good.  Mere doggerel will inflame the <X> even further.
  • Doing nothing is always an option, but you are now in a feud, and it may be harder to end it.
  • Wergild will also stop the feud, but it is costly.  Due to the nature of the crime, the <X> will ask for 160 cattle.  (20 is the normal rate for a thane, doubled for the severity of the crime, times 4 for the four sons).
  • Outlawing <Ring member> will also stop the feud, but the ring member will lose their life.
  • Telling them you are ready to fight will make it that much tougher for peace to be declared if you try to end the feud.
