Iron is a resource you may discover by exploring your tula.  Once discovered, your crafters may make trade goods from it.  Another clan may make an economic offer to acquire it.

Discovery Dialogue

We thought we'd found most of the secrets of our tula--but this latest expedition led us up a hill we hadn't climbed yet.  There we found large, fused lumps of iron, which we all know everyone wants.

Note:  You may get one or the other of the following trade dialogues, not both.  It is also possible to get no dialogue at all.

Trade Dialogue

A large group arrives from our ally, <X clan>.  Their leader is <Y>, their best trader.  They heard about our find of iron lumps. <Y> says "We know you found a supply of iron.  We are here to find a way to trade with you for this metal."
  1.   Tell them they must bargain alongside the other clans at market-time.
  2.   Offer to set up a trade agreement, where they send us 20 goods in exchange for the best iron lumps each year.
  3.   Offer them all the iron they can find on the mountainside in exchange for 60 cattle.

Consequences

Note:  If you have a devotee of Issaries present, they can let you know which option they think is best.  Or, if the other trader might decline the interaction, the [[Issaries] devotee still might get some smaller deal made on the side.

  •  The <X> clan will be a little disgruntled if they have to bargain with others at market-time, and they may offer violence, but usually it is just bluster.
  • You may offer them the best lumps in exchange for 20 goods a year.  This isn't a bad deal, though the other clan's trader may decline the offer.  Still, you may get a better deal just by setting up regular trade routes.
  • Unless you really want a large amount of cattle, offering them all the iron they can find is a bad idea.  The other clan will clean the mountain bare, and you won't be able to make iron trade goods any further.

Alternate Trade Dialogue

A large group of tough weaponthanes are here from the <X clan>.  They heard about our find of iron lumps.  Their leader, X, says, "We are very interested in your iron supply.  You will not want to pass up this chance to let us pay you for it."
  1.   Laugh at their effrontery, tell them to bargain alongside the other clans at market-time.
  2.   Offer to set up a trade agreement, where they send us 20 goods in exchange for the best iron lumps each year.
  3.   Offer them all the iron they can find on the mountainside in exchange for 60 cattle.
  4.   Refuse them politely.

Consequences

  • Needless to say, laughing at the effrontery of the <X> worsens relations with them, and may be the tipping point to inflame violence.
  • Refusing the <X> politely retains all your iron.  They may be slightly miffed, but usually take it in stride.
